Standing at the Edge of Change

(WW Insider Edition)

I have been in the throes of change this summer.

In case you missed it, I moved offices after nearly two decades in the same place! It has been an intense, meaningful, and powerful experience to create a space specifically designed for the work of Wise Women.

If you’re interested in learning more about the intention behind the space—or seeing it for yourself—you can explore A Space for You.

In individual and group therapy sessions, we used the office transition as an opportunity to help Wise Women become more aware of how they experience change and transition. We also explored skills and tools to help ease transitions and care for ourselves when the intensity inevitably arises.

This edition shares a couple of the experientials we used to process our experiences, along with my own personal reflection on navigating change.

I’ve thought a great deal about transitions lately as I’ve watched my father, who has been on and off hospice for years, seemingly unable to make that final transition despite a body that can no longer move and a mind that is nearly gone.

As I sit by his bedside, I get it.

Change is so hard for me, too, and as I get older, it seems to be getting even harder.

Not necessarily because I fear what’s on the other side. It’s the actual act of moving from one state to another that I find painful.
