Grounding Practice: Bilateral Painting! 🎨

In this WW Insider, we’re diving into a creative and grounding experience called Bilateral Painting—a practice designed to help you connect with your body, regulate your emotions, and embrace the power of play.

This practice is all about letting go of perfectionism and allowing yourself to be messy. We’ll use both hands, music, and movement to engage both sides of your brain, support emotional regulation, and embody your inner power.

Here’s what you’ll need:

  • Two paint brushes and two colors of paint (or any colored writing instruments you have on hand)
  • A hard surface like a canvas board, wood plank, or even cardboard

Practice time: 1-2 songs

Practice involves:

  • Body-focused mindfulness
  • Gentle movement
  • Music to guide your flow
  • Kinesthetic/Sensory expression
  • Perceptual/Affective attunement

And as a bonus, there’s a downloadable “Be Messy Practice” worksheet linked below to support your journey.

Remember, this is your time to explore, play, and ground yourself—no art experience needed.

Let’s get started and see where your messy creativity takes you!
